Peace & Love, Beautiful People! Thank you so much for making your way to my GoFundMe page. Those of you who know me know that I've been singing for a looooong time, and I have decided that 2014 is my year. I set my fundraising goal relatively high because I am basically seeking support to see me through this year as a working artist who has the time to create new work, do project-based travel, record, AND take care of sundry luxuries like dental work and healthcare without having to be stressed out about money. I'm calling it a Creation Fund, with the intention of raising enough to carry out several projects within this calendar year.

These undertakings include: a new jazz cd, to be recorded with some of New Orleans' finest musicians and released in the spring, a trip to Brazil to perform and record with Marcio Pereira, the amazing guitarist featured on my premiere cd, "Love's Divine," as well as to continue training and study in Afro-Brazilian healing traditions, some high-quality music videos and--FINALLY--the completion of the songs for my first cd of original music, as well as work on a performance piece to help bring it to life. I realize that this sounds like a lot, and it is, but it's also all completely possible with the support I am requesting. It is my heart's desire to send my voice further out into the world as a force of healing, love and light, to share my gifts with as many people as possible while remaining rooted in family and community, and paying the generosity forward as my success unfolds. While I am not detailing reward levels for different donation amounts at this time (I want to let those ideas evolve organically as the projects do), I can say for certain that there will be rewards!! I will also post updates as the recordings, travels, performances and creative processes manifest thanks to your contributions.

It's taken me a long time to get to this place, y'all, but I am finally ready. A few years back, a friend starting referring to me as "Songbird," and the nickname stuck and has taken on a life of its own. I feel humbled every time someone uses it to refer to me, but also incredibly honored to be placed on par with the beings who sing their hearts out day in and day out because it's all they can do--it's what they were born to do--respond to the beauty (and everything else) in the world with more beauty. Thank you so much for helping me spread my wings.
