Deborah Foley

On behalf of Deborah and our family, we would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Trinity Hospice for their diligent care (of both Deborah, family members and the supporting care staff in attendance), during Deborah’s recent admittance.

She was admitted to the In-Patient Department on the 3rd of October and discharged 16 nights later.

Debbie was diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy (a form of Motor Neurone Disease) in April of last year.

She was first signed off from work in November 2021 with an initial diagnosis of stress.

Although not frontline National Health Service, Debbie was pivotal within her team in setting up care packages for vulnerable people leaving acute care.

The COVID-19 pandemic meant that working hours extended dramatically and the working week, became exactly that!

Her condition, progressively worsened over the last year.

She lost the power of speech, could not eat or drink and steadily lost function in her limbs and extremities.

In September, after assessment by Trinity Hospice medical staff, the decision was made to admit Debbie for symptom management.

The focus of this management would be her oral secretions which to this point, had defied intervention.

The results of her stay at the Hospice made a genuine improvement to Debbie’s day-to-day life.

She lost her battle on the morning of Sunday 5th November 2023.

Her Michelle, Roy and I were at her bedside.

Instead of floral tributes, we are asking family and friends to donate to this worthy cause, in memory of Deborah.
