Paiges Medical Expenses

On February 11, 2023, our small community was devastated by a car accident involving 5 teenagers. The Vehicle was traveling northbound on Hwy 65 when it lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic. The small vehicle was struck directly on the passenger side by a second oncoming vehicle causing it to roll several times. Paige was sitting in the front passenger seat and took the majority of the impact from this, along with her friend sitting in the back seat directly behind her. Unfourtionatly he did not survive this accident. All 5 passengers were severely injured and found unconscious. Paige and another passenger were airlifted directly from the crash to Regions Hospital where they immediately both went into surgery. The other two boys were taken to Amery hospital and then transported to regions via ambulance. The 5th boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Because the kids did not have ID on them I did not find out about this accident until hours later.

Paige was intubated at the scene and received many units of blood products. Due to blood loss, her blood pressure was low and she was started on norepinephrine. Upon arrival, Paige was sent straight to the OR with both trauma and orthopedic surgery teams. She had Right sided pulmonary contusion and pneumothorax. X-Ray showed her Pelvis had multiple fractures, multiple fractured ribs, Lumbar transverse process fractures, and sacral fractures. CT scan showed splenic rupture with active bleeding and her spleen was immediately removed. CT scan also showed liver laceration, kidney laceration, pulmonary lacerations, and pulmonary contusions. Paige received many blood products in surgery also. Bilateral Femoral Traction pins were placed for the management of pelvis fractures and she was brought to Gillette PICU for management.

Paige remains intubated and sedated in the PICU and underwent surgical fixation of the pelvis, front and back, left and right. She also had a cystogram to check for bladder damage. They removed the traction pins in her legs.
Paige is only 16 years old but somehow she makes such an impact on everyone she meets. She is such a kind, bright, positive kid, her energy is contagious. She makes friends everywhere she goes, of all ages and all walks of life. She has a heart of gold and is greatly loved by everyone around her. She has a long recovery ahead of her and this will be a great challenge for her, as she never stops moving. I am positive that she will use this experience to make a positive impact on her peers and those around her, because she is always looking for the good in every situation, posting motivational quotes, or as her friends would say, there goes "Paigey spitting facts".

We are praying for a fast recovery for all involved not only physically but mentally too. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, anything helps!
