BTB Fundraiser for PDX Diaper Bank

Welcome, Supporters!

This is PDX Diaper Bank’s 6th annual fundraiser in partnership with Behind the Bastards (you rock, Robert)! Since 2020, BTB listeners have raised an incredible $113,435 in support of our mission to end diaper need. What an IMPACT!

This year, we’re seeking support to help purchase an entire truckload of diapers - that’s 250,000 diapers!

To make it even more awesome, all 52 pallets are Smurf-themed (okay, okay – we might just be children of the ‘80s). Our friends at DYPER offered us a MASSIVE discount on supplies, over 50% off, which makes donor dollars stretch and increases our impact in the community.

Why Diapers Are Important

Diaper need is defined as the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy, impacting the physical, mental, and economic well-being of families. According to the National Diaper Bank Network, 1 in 2 (47%) of families experience diaper need (2024). What this means for children, families, and communities is that:

1.) Children are unable to attend early childhood educational programs, because most daycares require diapers for attendance.

2.) Parents miss work, school, or other important duties due to lack of childcare. A recent study showed that low-income families experiencing diaper need missed an average of 4 work days a month.

3.) Families experiencing extreme poverty can spend up to 8-10% of their income on diapers alone!

4.) Student parents have frequent school absences. One of our educational partner agencies reported that the high school attendance of their teen parents increased by approximately 20% once they had access to diapers at the on-site childcare center.

5.) About 25% of low-income families reported having to keep their child diaperless to stretch supply (in a PDX Diaper Bank program survey). This is a public health issue!

How BTB Listeners Help

Last year, because of supporters like you, PDX Diaper Bank was able to distribute NEARLY 4 MILLION DIAPERS to Oregon families in need. The primary goal we’re working towards is continued programmatic expansion, in order to serve nonprofits STATEWIDE with critical safety-net programs for families experiencing houselessness, job insecurity, mental health issues, extenuating educational needs, seeking safety from domestic violence, and more.

Mission & Vision of PDX Diaper Bank

In collaboration with a growing network of nonprofit and government partner agencies, PDX Diaper Bank provides no-cost diapering supplies to low-income and houseless families with young children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities living in Portland, Oregon and the surrounding areas.

Diapers create opportunities. We believe that everyone, regardless of economic status, should have equitable access to diapering essentials in order to live healthy and productive lives, as well as ease financial strain during the pursuit of personal, educational, and professional success.
