Medical Costs

Jimmy Sons is my dad, a hard working, retired boat captain.  When my mom, the love of his life, had major health issues, he was by her side nursing her back to health.  Dad did everything for mom.  Being the strong, Christian patriarch he helped guide his family and no one took more pride in caring for mom than my dad.   Originally from Louisiana but now living in Missouri they loved country living, friends and church. Being a strong Christian, Dad enjoyed late night reading of his bible and was great at keeping Mom's spirits up with bible verses when days were hard.

I got married a year ago and recently had my first child.  Mom and Dad came down to see their grand baby as they were so excited.  A few days into the visit one night Mom was having chest pains, so Dad drover her to the hospital.  During the drive there Dad suffered a heart attack and drove off the road.  Just by chance a police officer was passing and found the truck in the ditch.  He saw they needed help, so he proceeded to check Dad's vitals.  Dad did not have a pulse, so the officer proceeded to do CPR until paramedics arrived.  Mom and dad were both in the hospital.  Mom was in afib, has recovered and has been released.  Dad had bigger issues and was sedated but when they attempted to wean the sedatives to allow him to wake up, he had seizures.  Dad had to be flown to a bigger hospital in New Orleans in order to provide better treatment options.  Multiple MRIs were done to check for hypoxia (damage from lack of oxygen to the brain) from the heart attack.  Thankfully no damage was found.  After being sedated and resting they were able to get dad off of the sedatives and seizure meds but he was not waking up.  After a month of no activity, Dad has had some positive signs and is responding to stimulation.  Dad has not officially waken up but has at times looked at Mom, medical staff and friends.  He even tried to talk and smile when he recognized a friend.  Dad will need to be moved to a facility for long term care and rehabilitation.

This man, my Dad, married my mom when she had four children that were not his own.  He took care of us, provided for us and loved us as if we were his own.  He had two more children with my mom, and worked incredibly hard to provide for six kids.  He has shown us how to love and respect others.  He took in other children from families in crises and needing a place to stay.  Dad gave so much for so many.

We need your help ...

I am asking for donations to help give dad a chance to recover as he did for my mom and others.  To give a little more time to get the treatments and care he needs. There has been too many medical test with good promising  results to give up on dad with no answers.  We need funding for treatment, care and transportation.  We really don’t know what all we will need as we go forward, but any help is greatly appreciated.

God bless and thank you ...
