I am starting this gofund me for my childhood best friend and her precious sisters as they are trudging through some of the heaviest waters that most of us cannot even fathom facing right now. Kimmie, Amanda, Lori, Ally, and Kristina's dad Paul was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson's back in 2019 at the age of 57. Signs and symptoms of these diseases started to present a few years prior but it took some time to confirm his diagnosis because he was so young. Since being diagnosed Paul's wife Annie has loyally stayed by his side and has been his sole caregiver, but last year in February of 2024, while Paul was continuing to decline, Annie tragically suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke on her right side of the brain. After spending 2 months in the hospital, undergoing a craniotomy, and various other procedures, Annie was discharged home with a VP shunt. She left the hospital unable to use her left arm, unable to walk steadily, and with severe cognitive deficits. She was receiving speech, occupational, and physical therapy weekly but even with those intensive therapies Annie's cognitive abilities never returned to baseline. Recently Annie fell out of her bed and hit her head on her nightstand. After getting staples in her head and stitches in her ear, a CT scan revealed that she had also suffered another brain bleed. She was admitted to the hospital, had a VP shunt revision and was discharged home after a few days. For the first few days at home Annie seemed ok but then the sisters noticed she was acting off so they took her back to the hospital. Another CT scan was performed and showed that her 2cm hematoma had grown to 10cm, so they admitted her and prepped her for surgery on Friday 2/28. The day after the doctor's called to say that Annie had suffered yet another massive brain bleed on the left side of her brain and that she needed emergency surgery to correct it. Annie underwent another craniotomy and is currently still in the ICU at UAB. The hope was that Annie would be able to come home and spend Paul's final days together, however, due to the state of Annie's health, there are no plans for her to be discharged any time soon.

I have seen first hand how these sisters have given up everything to selflessly care for their parents over this past year all while trying to work full time jobs and care for their own families at home. The financial burden of medical care for both Paul and Annie feels overwhelming at this time and coupled with funeral costs for Paul, the need for financial support is insurmountable. The money raised from this gofundme will go directly to support the 24/7 care that Annie will require once she comes home, and to help cover Paul's services once he passes. My heart is breaking for this family and all that they are walking through and carrying with them. Please help me in supporting them in any way you can!
