Noah's Top Surgery

Hi, my name in Noah Copeman.

I am an 18-year-old trans man. I recently had my top surgery consultation and have been quoted an estimated figure of $15,000. I am currently working 2 jobs to try and afford my gender affirming surgery. My surgery date is the 25/10/24 but the fees have to be paid 2-3 weeks before surgery. This gives me around 177 days to come up with this figure. My main job is a position as a full-time apprentice; therefore, I am earning quite a low income. I am not one who likes to ask for money but due to my surgery date being so close and coming up with the figure needed for surgery on my own would be impossible, therefore I have no other option. I will be receiving a Medicare rebate of approximately $1,000 after I pay the $15,000 out of pocket. The reason this procedure is so expensive is because I am going with a private surgeon. I have no other choice but to go with a private surgeon because for most places it is Illegal to perform top surgery publicly and if I was to go publicly, I would also be on a waiting list of up to 10years.

Why is this surgery so important to me?

Growing up I always knew I was different and never truly felt comfortable within myself. This became very prominent when I started going through puberty. I tried to suppress my dysphoria in order to fit in with others. As a child I was always a tomboy and never understood why. Many thought I would grow out of it and that this was just a phase, but I soon realized I was transgender. Overall, this surgery would be truly lifesaving for me, being comfortable within myself and my body feeling like home is everything I have ever wanted.
