Tom's Bowhead Fund

This fundraiser is to try and raise money for Tom to get him back mountain biking again. Tom crashed on his commute home on the 6th December 2023, he was on his bike and hit a lorry. From this, he broke his back, and has been left paralysed from his chest down. Tom has always ridden bikes of all sorts, be that on or off road, and since his accident, he's been back on the road with the help of a handbike, but the one place he hasn't been able to go is back offroad.

In the summer of 2024, he had the chance to test a Bowhead Reach with the help of Adaptiv sports, and it's the biggest smile he's had on his face since his crash. He was able to ride off road, and even send it down some trails again. This day out was incredible, and gave him a taste of what's still possible, even as a para athlete.

The one downside of adapted technology is the price, unfortunately it's unavoidable with the small demand, and the amount of technology and research which has to go into making them.

The cost of a Bowhead Reach which is suitably specificied to Tom's needs comes right around the £20,000 and as a student, there's only so much money which Tom is able to raise himself. As a family we have managed to sell all of his old bikes which he no longer can use, and this has started to make a dent into the cost of a Bowhead, but he still has a long way to go unfortunately.

So many friends, family, and acquaintances have offered help over the past year, and the answer has almost always been 'No thanks, we're doing ok!', but the answer is now 'If you have a few pounds spare, we'd really appreciate it'. If Tom's able to afford a Bowhead, he'll be out on it whenever possible, be that in South Wales, near home, or even (hopefully) abroad in places like the Alpes. If you don't have any spare cash, or don't want to donate any, that's absolutely no problem at all, we just hope you enjoy getting a little update on how Tom's doing.
