Replace Our Stolen Black History Monuments
Donation protected
On February 12, 2019 student anti-racist activists at UNC Chapel Hill installed two Black History monuments. The first was to James Cates, a young Black man who was murdered on UNC’s campus by white supremacists in 1970. UNC took this down in less than 24 hours. The second was to the Negro Wench, a Black woman who Julian Carr describes whipping at UNC’s gates in his dedication speech for the confederate monument, Silent Sam. This monument was stolen the night of February 15 by a local neo-confederate hate group, ACTBAC. Please help artists rebuild these monuments so this Black history can again be shared.
