Wheelchair Accessible Van
Donation protected
I've started this page for my brother, Richard.
Richard is a wonderful father and husband. He is a funny and caring individual. He is an active member of the Mehlville and Saint Louis community and has devoted time advocating for all people, many people with disabilities.
Richard’s current van, a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, modified for his specific driving needs, has reached the end of its use. Recently the screen literally displayed a message counting down the hours until it stops running. Without a new van, Richard will lose his ability to drive.
Having transportation is a massive part of Richard's independence. Richard has worked part-time for Saint Louis Community college for nearly 20 years in many facets. He helps care for his mother, who lives with him and his family. Richard volunteers at his daughter’s elementary school. For Richard to continue being independent, he needs a new accessible van. The equipment required for him to drive must be installed in a new van because of the cost and warranties of the equipment. A used van, unfortunately, is not an option. There are a limited number of van models he can choose from due to the modifications that must be made. There is also a limited number of vans available for purchase.
Without a new van, Richard will lose his ability to drive. It would be life-changing as Richard would no longer be able to bring his daughter to school, drive his mother to doctor appointments, pick up his family's grocery order or drive to work. Richard's wife's vehicle can not accommodate a power wheelchair, so without a van, he would lose his ability to move around out in public independently.
Thank you for any donations you make to help Richard obtain a new van and maintain his independence.
