My cousin, Corrie Burdick, is an amazing mom, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, teacher and artist. She has lived her life to the fullest despite facing health challenges for over 30 years. At 21, she was a pedestrian struck by a drunk driver. After many years of issues stemming from the accident, her leg was amputated in 2014. Unfortunately, insurance only covers half the cost of a prosthetic, which costs about $20,000, and she still owes money on a leg she couldn't use. At 36, her struggle with cancer began. She battled breast cancer, then ovarian cancer in 2020, and her cancer is back aggressively, forcing her to do chemo again. She will likely be out for the remainder of the school year with FMLA leave as unpaid. Both of her girls are in school; her youngest daughter, Luci, is a junior at SUNY Brockport, and is a Type 1 Diabetic. It is imperative that Corrie maintain her health benefits not only for her own ongoing cancer treatment, but for her daughters to remain covered on her insurance. My hope is that the funds from this will enable her to keep her health benefits, house payments up to date, and pay living expenses while on leave. Let's give Corrie, Savvy, and Luci our love, prayers, and financial support this holiday season.
