help with car

My name is Kate McClellan and I live in Anchorage in a small house that was paid off by my partner before he died of cancer many years ago. I am disabled and have lived on a low Social Security income and by boarding 3 or 4 dogs for some people from my church for extra income. I have lived within my means for years but some things have happened all at once that have put me in over my head.

The years after my partner died were difficult ones for me and I was too overwhelmed to keep up my home’s maintenance very well. A serious mold problem developed from a leak in the wall around a spare room window and I recently used up savings and charged up my limited maximum on a credit card to have the mold remediated and begin paying a contractor to replace the window, wall and flooring. I will still owe more when the job is finished and don’t know where I will find the rest, so now was not the time to have my car break down. Unfortunately, it needs a $4,000 repair plus the $600.00 I already owe for the diagnosis.

I am asking for help because Anchorage is so spread out that with my disability not having a car would be especially isolating and difficult. The shop said it will only hold onto my car for a week or so and I’m hoping that I can raise the funds to get it repaired by then.
