CANCER May 2022
Hi, this is Jackie, Brock’s Nani.
As most of you know, Brock was diagnosed with T-Cell A.L.L. on March 7, 2018 at the age of 6. We were grateful that it was caught early and after a month of intense chemotherapy he was considered in remission. He had to continue to undergo treatment for three and a half years to make sure it stayed in remission. On June 14, 2021 Brock got to ring the bell and end this cancer journey.
Just a couple months later we got the devastating news that cancer struck again. He was diagnosed with MDS. MDS is a rare pre-cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow and would require a bone marrow transplant in October 2021. This involved a more intensive chemo regimen to kill the cancer cells before the transplant.
A month after his transplant we found out that it did not work. The MDS continued to grow so the doctors started him on a different chemo treatment. We spent three months driving back and forth to Ann Arbor almost daily to get chemo and blood products.
On Friday, April 29th we received a call from the doctors, and were told that the MDS had progressed into, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This type of cancer is rare and difficult to treat. On May 9th Brock will start yet another chemo treatment, this one even more aggressive than the last, in the hopes that the cancer will go into remission and allow him to receive a second transplant.
We are devastated to say the least, but we know that Brock is a fighter. Through this whole journey he has always wanted to give back. His heart is so big, and we are so proud of him.
Please continue to pray for us as we start this third journey. We will be driving to and from Ann Arbor during the outpatient portion of chemo and then spending at least a month in the hospital.
This journey once again comes with challenges. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
God Bless us, All!
Team Brock!
