Jack’s Bar Mitzvah campaign- Innovation Africa

Donation protected
My name is Jack Ufberg, I am 12 years old and I live in Philadelphia, PA. This year I will celebrate my Bar Mitzvah and in honor of this event and my new responsibilities as a man, I would like to make a difference and  to help those less fortunate than me.  I truly hope that this is just the beginning of my efforts to make this world a better place for all of us!

There are currently 620 MILLION people in AFRICA without electricity and clean water. Recently my family lost electricity for a total of 6 hours due to bad weather and we were lost!I can not imagine life without these things! Without electricity comes malnutrition, low quality education, and poor medical care. With your help, we can make a huge difference!

Innovation Africa, a New York Based organization uses Israeli solar energy to pump water from below the aquifer, uses solar energy to power schools and medical centers, and uses drip irrigation to bring food security to the villages.

With your help and donations, In January 2020, I will be able to travel with my mom and 4 other son/mother groups on a life changing mission to Africa to witness the village, medical center or school receive solar power for the first time! And what an experience we will have to be able to celebrate with those who will directly benefit!!

The plan:
I’ve partnered with four other 2020 Bar-Mitzvah boys (three of whom have mothers that grew up in Philadelphia and attended Camp with my dad!).  Together we will raise $18,000  to donate to Innovation: Africa and bring solar power to either a medical center, school or village.

What am I responsible for?
I am responsible for raising $3,600 towards the $18,000 needed for the project.  This portion will go directly to Innovation: Africa. I'm hoping to raise an additional $2,400 to cover some of the fees needed to travel from Philadelphia to Africa.

More about Innovation: Africa
The non-profit organization Innovation: Africa (iA) is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to bring Israeli solar, water and agricultural technologies to rural African villages.  Since its founding in 2008, iA has completed over 170 solar installations bringing light, access to clean water, improved education, refrigeration for vaccines and medicines, and proper nutrition and food security to over 1 million people in the most remote villages in Africa.  Their vision is to reach 1,000 villages by 2025.  The Israeli heart and mind is transforming the lives of millions of Africans!

Water, Watts and Women’s Empowerment:
Building solar powered water pumping systems allows villages to have clean water at centrally located taps.  By alleviating the time spent on collecting water, more girls are enrolled in school and women are pursuing endeavors such as community gardens to improve nutrition and provide additional income.  Innovation: Africa’s work is aligned with Power Africa and the Government of Israel’s strategic partnership to reduce energy poverty and increase energy access on the continent.
