7 Peaks in 7 Weeks - Conquering Everest
Donation protected
Last year with the help of everyone, we managed to raise €6,000 for the great cause that is Pieta House by running 500km throughout Lent.
This year I am back with a new challenge to raise much needed funds for 2 great charities! That is, to scale the equivalent of each of the Seven Summits of the World (highest peak on each continent), but within my 5km radius. These are:
1. Mount Everest (8,848m) - Asia
2. Aconcagua (6,961m) - South America
3. Denali (6,194m) - North America
4. Kilimanjaro (5,895m) - Africa
5. Mount Elbrus (5,642m) - Europe
6. Mount Vinson (4,892m) - Antarctica
7. Puncak Jaya (4,884m) - Australia
I will do this by climbing the Devil's Bit Mountain (479m) the required number of times to equal these heights. For example, in order to climb the equivalent height of Everest, I will have to climb the Devil's Bit Mountain approximately 18.5 times in one day! I will complete each peak in a day which I am sure will result in some very early mornings and late nights! I also aim to accomplish each peak on each Saturday throughout Lent, culminating in Everest on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
The charities I decided to fundraise for this year are 'Aoibheanns Pink Tie' and 'Barrettstown', two very worthy causes who help sick children. I would really appreciate any donation possible. Follow my Instagram page (alan.o.riordan5) where I will post regularly and keep everyone updated on my progress! My schedule will be as follows:
20th February - Puncak Jaya (10 climbs)
27th February - Mount Vinson (10 climbs)
6th March - Mount Elbrus (12 climbs)
13th March - Kilimanjaro (12.5 climbs)
20th March - Denali (13 climbs)
27th March - Aconcagua (14.5 climbs)
3rd April - Mount Everest (18.5 climbs)
