8 year old Addison Vs. Rhabdomyosarcoma - Take 8.
Hello All! Well- since we last posted, Addison's cancer has recurred 2 more times.
So crazy.
It continues to recur to the lungs.
We are thankful it hasn't shown its face elsewhere.
This is a quick rundown of our history- for those of you new to our story:
August, 2015 daughter was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma IV- age 3.
54 week treatment protocol
Upper right lung lobectomy
Tumor resection
4 weeks proton therapy
Achieved NED
May, 2017- recurrence to Lungs only, started relapse protocol and low dose full lung radiation
Achieved NED again
May, 2018- recurrence. One spot in lung. Surgically removed. Achieved NED
February, 2019- recurrence. One spot in lung. Surgically removed. Achieved NED
July, 2019- recurrence. Once spot in lung. Surgically removed. Achieved NED
October, 2019- One spot in lung. Surgically removed.
February, 2020- 3 spots in lung. Surgically removed.
August, 2020- 3 spots in lung.
We are hoping to remove it surgically again in the upcoming week. We are in the process of coming up with a plan. We do have some additional alternative things that we would like to do along with the traditional treatment.
We have found a lab in the United States that can take part of the live tumor that is removed and implant it in a mouse- we will call him "Mickey"... ha. They will grow the tumor and then implant this tumor into multiple mice. We will treat the mice with different medications and come up with a plan that will work specifically for Addison. This has proven helpful to many other sarcoma patients. The information that we gain from this can help Addi and other children in the future. We are excited about this.
We have also started working again with our naturopathic oncologist- he has some ideas for us as well. We are encouraged by the testimonials he has given us.
Both of these options are extremely expensive, especially when added to insurance, uncovered supplements, uncovered tests, continued missed work, etc....
We absolutely hate still being in this position, but we are so thankful to still be in the fight with such a strong little girl.
We have been told that "this is no time to be humble."
Many have asked how to help, and this really does help. We will be posting updates for all to see.
We are looking forward to a successful ending to this crazy, exhausting, stressful cancer journey and are so ready to start the next chapter of our lives.
We are optimistic and hopeful that she will continue to beat the odds.
Many of you have helped so much already- we are so thankful and grateful to you all. If you can't contribute - no worries at all... we appreciate you reading our story! Please feel free to pass it on,,, maybe there is someone, somewhere who has been in a similar scenario and has some advice for us.
Thank you all so much! Let's do this!
Much Love,
Mark, Kara, William and Addison
