Help For My Daughter’s Family, Husband In Hospital
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,My son in law Kevin is fighting for his life in the hospital, they have been doing every test possible and they can not figure out what is causing his ITP - “Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding results from unusually low levels of platelets — the cells that help blood clot. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, which is also called immune thrombocytopenia, affects children and adults. Children often develop ITP after a viral infection and usually recover fully without treatment. In adults, the disorder is often long term.”https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/idiopathic-thrombocytopenic-purpura/symptoms-causes/syc-20352325
He has now been in the hospital for a week and we have no idea how much longer he will be there and even once release will not be able to go back to work for some time. He has no benefits, short or long term disability coverage thru work that will help cover while he is out.
This is not only devastating emotionally but also financially Kevin was the bread winner while Amanda was going to school for nursing and taking care of their 5 children ages 2 to 9 years.
I am be putting up a go fund me for them to help cover their monthly bills: mortgage, electric, utilities, car insurance, food etc. and pray that he will be able to make a full recovery. No amount is too small and greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much and please keep them in your prayers.~ Kathy
Below are the updates since he went in the hospital.
Update: 3/25:
Kevin’s platelet count have gone up and then keep going down drastically and haven’t stabilized the Doctors have said the don’t know what is going on with him. He is having a bone marrow biopsy today because they don't know what is going on with him. They want to see if this will give them a diagnosis and to confirm if the Leukemia/Cancer blood test was right or wrong being neg.
My daughter Amanda, myself and our families want to than everyone for their support and generous donations during this very stressful time.
Update 3/15:
The doctors are considering another course of treatment with the medication RhoGAM which is an immune suppressant. This medication can only be used in Rh positive patients. They have also discussed the option of the spleen removal in which case he would need platelet transfusion before and during the surgery
Update 3/14: Over the past few days Kevin was taken off his IV steroid meds and changed to an oral steroid. He also was given a chemo medication called Rituximab which he had a bad reaction to and moved to the Cancer ward, he has not been diagnosed with Cancer. His platelets have gone up and down and are now back down this morning to 2000. He is still critical, please keep him , my daughter and my 5 granddaughters in your prayers.
Update 3/10: Kevin’s number up to 7000 today! Dr’s Still don’t know what it is that’s causing his ITP and remind us that 7000 is still a critical stage bit because his platelet #’s should be between 150,000 to 350,000!
Update 3/9: Finally some good news! Kevin’s platelet numbers are going in the right direction and are up to 3000 this morning! Also his Leukemia test came back negative! Thank you everyone for all your prayers, texts and calls, they are working! ❤️❤️❤️
Update: Please keep praying his platelets have dropped to only 1000!!! They need to find out what is going on and what is causing the ITP!Thank you everyone so much for all your prayers! We’re waiting on all the test results his platelets are so low the doctors said that giving him anything right now would just be destroyed Because his white cells are attacking all the red cells. The medications that they’ve been giving him take up to three days to work They said he has ITP and they have to find out what is causing it. They are monitoring him. Will let everyone know when I hear anything.I maybe posting for blood and platelets to be donated if hospital needs, Waiting to hear backAsking everyone for prayers for my son in law Kevin right now he is in the hospital.
