Chango’s Immersion Trip

My name is Thomas "Chango" Hamilton. I am 15 years old and a future generation fly fisherman. I have been fly fishing for about 4 years. Shortly after I began, I got involved with an organization called Project Healing Waters. It is group that helps wounded veterans by teaching them fishing and giving them a place to go for support. I have been volunteering with them for almost 3 years now. Through this program I have developed a love for fly fishing and learned the value of helping others.

I have also volunteered at Troutfest for the past 2 years. While I was at Troutfest, I met a Lady named Heather Harkavy who is the Director of Programs and Fundraising at Fish for Change. I was invited under scholarship to participate in one of their program events in Campeche, Mexico for a week. Throughout the week I will be helping train the next generation of guides, teaching English in local schools, and participating in plastic clean ups and education. I will also have the opportunity to fish for tarpon and snook, visit Mayan ruins, and hunt for octopus.

Part of the itinerary includes time in the evenings for journaling and posting to social media. For corporate sponsors I will be posting photos and shout outs of gear and apparel promoting their brand.

The $3500.00 scholarship covers all expenses except for air fare, tip money, insurance, and gear. I have some gear but I don't have what is required for this adventure. I am looking for sponsorship for the remaining expenses. I'm looking to raise $2,000. Anything I receive over my actual expenses will be donated back to Fish for Change to be applied to another scholarship so someone else can go and experience this amazing opportunity.
