Help. Everything Lost In Apt Fire.
Donation protected
Hello everyone. My family is going through very difficult times and is seeking help from the community. My parents live in a 3 story building. The building suffered a fire on Friday March 22nd 2019 that originated from the apartment above us. Thank goodness everyone made it out safely including a single mother and her 18th month child that was evacuated via a fire truck ladder through the window. The tenants above us lost everything. We experience fire and water damage, and ceilings caving in. Our apartment is not salvageable or safe to live in. It smells of smoke, and mold. The Red Cross provided them to stay in a near by hotel from Friday night only up until Monday morning. The landlord is not agreeing to accomodate us. Two nights later we went inside in hope to salvage what we can. Just as we thought things couldn't get any worse for us, we were suprised to discover that we were also robbed. My parents bedroom was tossed. Drawers opened, clothes everywhere, locked breif cases and suitcases were broken into. Things such as gold jewelry, camera, laptop, tv, were stolen. We followed up with police and an evidence investigation team. We were able to save some things such as photographs, some articles of clothing and put them in a storage unit. Will have to pay for extra days in hotels and storage out of our pockets. This is not the only trauma we are currently dealing with. On Feb 27th my father was in a car accident driving to long island with 4 other cars involved. He suffered a few broken ribs and intense chest pains and lost his car because it was totaled. We are going through a lot mentally. My family is going through intense post traumatic symptoms. My father is on several medications at the moment and need to follow up with medical visits. We are currently trying to find housing in Queens. Please be open, and find the kindness in your hearts to help us if able to. It's okay you aren't in the position to donate. My parents are both elderly and the donations will help them get them back on their feet and give them a new home. Any leads on new places to live would be great too. Every penny is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
