71yr old Brazilian flood victim Mrs. Gleci and her community

Hi my name is Kavita and I am helping Daniela Karuna raise funds to support her 71 yr old mum, Mrs. Gleci, and her community who are victims of the recent floods in Rio Grande du Sol, Brazil.

Mrs. Gleci, like almost 70,000 people in Brazil, has been displaced from her home, which was completely inundated by water during the flood. Living alone, being of frail nature and having to vacate the premises quickly, she was unable to retrieve many items prior to fleeing.

When the flood inundated her house she ended up losing everything -furniture, clothing and other precious and much loved items and memories. Fortunately she managed to find temporary safety with some nearby friends. As she did not go to a shelter it has been difficult to receive assistance from the government and NGOS, but again has received some basic assistance from caring neighbours and friends.

Mrs.Gleci is in quite a fragile state requiring an air pump to assist with her breathing and running out of much needed medicines. Daniela has left Portugal to assist her mother and others in the community. Ultimately Daniela would like to bring her mum back to Portugal as it is unlikely that conditions will improve in Brazil within the near term.

Many of us are fortunate that we have not experienced such devastating loss in our lives, and many of us who have hopefully got through those difficult times with the support, love and generosity of others.
