Hello Everyone!
First of all, I would like to introduce myself. Most of you know me as Jennifer Huber. Others know me as my maiden name Jennifer Weckerle. When I was a baby, my family called me puffer. That’s because I giggled like the Pillsbury Doughboy when they tickled my belly. My father had a unique name for me as a child. He called me Genesis. It seemed a bit eccentric, but it was the 60s. So I have had a lot of names throughout my life and a journey has come with all my names. For the last 12 years of my life, I have established a new name which has suited me best. My name is Mommy. It has been my favorite name so far, living my life raising my daughter Brooke.
When Brooke was born I started writing in a journal about all the experiences we had together. I felt that writing brought me happiness and made me feel complete. These journals also will be a nice gift to Brooke when she is older and she can read them and appreciate all the things we did together.
Reading books to Brooke was one of my favorite things to do when she was little, and I decided to start writing books for and about her. I created a book about when I was a little girl, Brooke’s adventure in kindergarten with her class mascot, and the day we saw a crow on the beach. Of those stories, my favorite is the first one, which is about a little girl named Jenesis. Yes, the name my dad used to call me but with a J not a G. These stories came from journaling and the experiences Brooke and I had together. There are many other stories that Brooke has inspired me to write. They are written down and ready to be created. I’m hoping Brooke will collaborate with me one day and illustrate them. I also want to share the stories with your children, grandchildren, and hopefully one day Brooke’s children.
So, everyone, as time has passed I haven’t been able to fund my books with illustrations. I plan to self-publish and will be putting my first book into a publishing package I won 3 years ago from Friesen Press. OUR JOURNEY MAKING MEMORIES POETRY BOOK is coming out in June. I need to get this done so I can move on to the next projects’ illustrations. I’m reaching out to you all to help me create these books and continue pursuing my passion for writing children’s picture books.
As I said before, first things first, so I have to choose the book I would like to fund first. I have chosen WHEN I WAS A LITTE GIRL A-Z. This is a book I wrote for children to read at a preschool level. Once this book is illustrated and published I would like to get illustrators for the other books I mentioned. The cost for all these books to get illustrated is approximately $30,000. Can you help me bring these books alive with colored illustrations page by page? This is the first phase of a multi-phase project I’m working on. I will share more of that information with you in the future.
I also would like to share with you another one of my books entitled THE LITTLE BIRD THAT COULD NOT TWEET. This story is about surviving child abuse and I’m promoting it during National Child Abuse Prevention month.
Oh, by the way, I'm a poet and didn't even know it!
Making poetry makes me feel like a baby bird,
Leaving its nest for the first time, in full flight,
While learning how to sing.
Enjoy our journey making memories.
Warm regards,
Jennifer
