The Cardenas Familia Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Dear familia & friends , I wanted to let you know what's been going on with our familia. My brother Hector Jr is hospitalized. He started losing his vision over the weekend of 3/22/19 and it got worse, on Tuesday 3/26/19 He was admitted to the hospital. It was determined he suffered an eye stroke which is called Retinal Artery Occlusion. This can normally happen to 1 eye in his case it happened to both his eyes. He is currently partially blind seeing shadows & bright colors. Because this is extremely rare they said there are two types of blockages. One is blocked at the exit of the blood flow but Jr's is blocked at the entrance. His vessels were not getting blood flow they started dying. They said they don’t know how much vision he may get back and it might get a little bit better or it might stay as it is. They currently have him on steroids but because Jr is also diabetic he is currently experiencing high blood sugars due to the steroids he is on, but this is normal. He has a diabetes specialist watching him and helping control it. He had an MRI on 3/28/19. His MRI came back as normal which is a good/bad thing. Since the MRI is normal they have to do more extensive test to see what is going on. This Monday 4/1/19 they will be performing a biopsy on his temple cutting into his temporal artery to see if there is any blood clots coming from there. With steroids his vision has gotten somewhat better and he is able to see colors better. They are hoping to discharged no later than next week. They have more tests they will be running and we will be looking into preventing what is happening from getting any worse and having another stroke happening again. At this time there has been no diagnosis to the cause of this event. There are many symptoms pointing to some sort of Autoimmune disorder or Vasculitis. His daughters Melinda & Melissa have been with their father during this difficult time trying to be there as much as they can to get answers, and they will be there to support him during the challenging transition to life as a partial blind father. Prayers are needed for him and his girls. He is a single parent which of 2 of his 4 daughters are living with him, Marie & Maya. He was on disability which has now ended. He was going to start getting trained in a new work field but all this has came to an end. His Dr has started his paperwork to get him permanently disabled from Social Security at the age of 45 years old. He will not be able to work again as his vision will never be 100% Should you make any generous contribution, it will be applied first to help pay his rent & bills. Then also to help move him out of his current apartment and hopefully into low income housing that would somewhat be near his older daughters homes. We are fortune he has medical insurance and his medical bills are being paid for. He will have to adapt to new life skills and transition needs, and the safety modifications that are required to ensure Jr’s safety navigating in his respective home. Funds will additionally be used for various living expenses as needed until his Social Security Disability is approved. This support is essential to restoring normalcy in Jr and his girls life, and accepting that blindness is not a disability, but will require Jr to apply different skills to accomplish his daily activities.  Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. Our Familia is forever grateful
