Echo is a ten-week-old Border Collie puppy my family and I adopted a few weeks ago. She is a sweet dog who loves everyone she meets and is happy and playful all the time. In the short weeks we've had and known her, she's become part of the family, helping with all of our anxiety and my little brother, who has autism, become more social. In the span of a night, Echo bacme sick and was not her usual playful self. She was coughing and hacking and having trouble breathing so we took her to the vet the next morning who took x-rays and told us that she had fluid in her body and around her lungs making it hard to breathe. The diagnostics and medicine alone cost almost two thousand dollars and the vet said she has a tumor-like mass in her chest cavity, which, we're hoping, is benign. She will need either surgery to remove it, or radiation to shrink the mass. My family and I are talking to different specialists and veterinarian schools to find the cheapest option (the best option out of everything would be to remove the mass) but it is still going to be expensive so my family felt that five thousand is a good start.
