Let's Get Baseball Gear to Nicaragua!
Donation protected
I'm driving to Nicaragua with a truck full of baseball gear to give to the people!
The Reason
Driving to Central America is a bucket list item. I've been to Nicaragua twice and I love the culture, people, vibes, and waves.
Baseball is Nicaragua's national sport! They absolutely love it down there, but unfortunately, gear is very expensive and hard to come by.
I looked up how much it would be to ship the equivalent of my truckload full of gear and it would cost $14,000.
So.. I'm gonna fill up my truck and get baseball and softball gear down there to give to the local leagues and kids. I'll be looking for waves and documenting the entire journey down there.
Baseball shaped my early life for the better, and these gifts could do the same for many more people:)
How to Support
1. Baseball Gear- The first use case for the money will be to ensure my truck is filled to the brim with baseball gear. I will be reaching out to get as much of the gear donated as possible. If it is not filled on donations alone, I will use the money to find gear to fill the truck. If you have extra gear or know someone who does, let me know!
2. Expenses
The second use for the money will be to aid with my travel expenses.
This is a 3,600 mile trip. 3,600/15mpg = 240 gallons x $4per gallon = $960 in gas
I'll say 20 days to get down there because I know we'll have to wait for Covid tests, maybe a truck problem or two. 20 nights x $20 hotel = $400
Food = $300
International Insurance and License = $300
Ferry from Baja to Mainland $250
Approx Expense Total = $1,910
3. Truck Preparation
If we fill up the truck and cover those expenses, the third use of the money will help cover a truck tune-up.
Probably $1,000
Bf Goodrich Ko2 tire = $250
4. Getting Back
I'll allot a $500 budget to get back. I may sell/donate/leave my truck down there. I may drive back. I'm not sure yet. I'm just concerned with getting down there for now.
4. BIGGER DREAMS
If we start raising more than the aforementioned goals, I'll be looking for ways to get more stuff down there. I'd look into buying a Van or heck a schoolbus?
If anybody has a van I could use, I'd be very interested! What else.. If somebody else wants to join me in another truck or van, the money could go towards their expenses and baseball gear.
Nicaragua's tourism was devastated when I first visited in 2018 and now with Covid, the industry is in shambles. I know a missionary down there. I'd reach out to him to see where money may be needed.
Whatever happens, I'll keep y'all posted.
Thank you so much everybody!!!
