Medical & living expenses for Tribal Elder
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Marci and I'm hoping to raise funds for someone who means the world to me, my father, Dennis. He’s more commonly known as just “Punkin.” Last fall Punkin was in a serious car wreck and ended up in the emergency room. His sternum was cracked, suffered multiple cuts and contusions but thankfully was able to walk away on crutches from this incident. While in the E.R., it was revealed that my dad has lung cancer. Treating the cancer has been put on the back burner as his team of Doctors have been trying to get his heart strong enough for surgery and treatment. Aside from the cancer, congestive heart failure has caused multiple procedures to be needed in attempts to get his heart to a place where surgery is safe. On top of all this, my dad, who is also diabetic, has a wound on his foot that has not been properly healing. A surgeon spoke to him about a possible amputation. With so many doctor appointments, my dad has missed a lot work. Money has been tight for him and a source of stress on top of the stress of all of the health issues he faces.
Punkin is an Otoe-Missouria tribal member and Elk clan. Although he is an elder, Punkin has always been one who enjoys helping others even when he has nothing to give but service. He’s always ready to cut wood for funerals, sweats or elders in the winter. He also helps with traditional funerals, by cooking or being a part of the services. He cuts lawns for other elders, does handy work - the list goes on. Now he is in need of some help for himself. Although he won’t ask for it, he needs funding to get to and from doctor appts. He's recently moved into a home and needs all the basics such as, living room furniture, a bed, etc. I hope to raise enough funds to get him started out in this new home, where he can recover and heal safely and comfortably. These funds will also help with all the medical expenses and travel that he is incurring.
