Agent Orange Article
My father is battleling Stage 4 Renal Cell (Kidney) Cancer. His Doctors, Surgeons and Oncologist are confident his Cancer was caused by exposure to to Agent Orange while serving his country in Vietnam. Renal Cell Cancer is not recognized by the VA as presumed to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
My Dad is in desperate need of a insluin pump to help with Blood Sugar issues. He is a Type II Diabetic which the VA does recognize to be a presumed diease caused by exposure to AO. The VA will only consider the pump for those Vets diagnosed as Type I Diabetic.
His other option was Medicare, however, they only cover the cost of a pump for a Type I Diabetic. Due to the inoperable tumor in his Pancreas, at times, his Pancreas becomes dormant. This results in very low and/or extreamly high Blood Sugar Levels. Both his Endrocologist and Oncologist recommend an Insulin Pump.
My Dad starts Targeted Therapy (a type of chemo) in a couple of weeks, he will experience serious side effects which will impact Blood Sugar levels even more.
The insluin pump is going to cost them over $1,000 plus they already have over $10,000.00 in out of pocket medical expenses, which at this time they cannot afford. Any donation will help them and we hope to reach the goal so he can get the device he needs.
