Summits for Sofia

Sofia's Story

In January 2016, when Sofia was three years old, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a complicated and rare form of cancer. She had tumours in several parts of her body and the disease had spread to her bones too.

The road has been tough for Sofia and her family these last three years. She’s been through two surgeries, two stem cell transplants, been on chemotherapy almost constantly and has endured several difficult trial treatments in both Glasgow and London.

Through all this Sofia is repeatedly surprising everyone with her resilience, bravery and positive demeanour. She seems to always bounce back with a smile on her face.

The future is still unknown for Sofia and her family and there are still hard times ahead. The amazing doctors and nurses in Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children are working tirelessly to ensure Sofia gets the best treatment available to her.

We are aiming to raise funds for Sofia and her family to use to ensure Sofia has everything she needs to battle this disease whether is be towards medical costs, general expenses, and just allowing Sofia to experience life to the fullest with any remaining funds going towards a range of charities close to Sofia's family's hearts.

Our Challenge and Motivation

On September 22nd-23rd 2018, we(Mario Jaconelli, Colin Aitken, Lee Clark, Fraser Elder, Andrew Harrison, Neil MacDougall, Derek Mathewson, Craig Walker, Graeme Walker, Mark Wallace, Barry Wilson, and Fraser Wilson) will aim to complete the Three Peaks Challenge which is an endurance event to climb the highest mountains in Scotland(Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon) within a 24 hour period including ascents, descents and travel time. 

Anyone who knows Sofia or has even seen photos of her will no doubt have felt their heart melt at that smile on her face no matter what she is going through. Sofia is the bravest little lady that we have ever known, and if we can channel just a tiny fraction of the mental toughness she has shown over the years then this challenge should feel like a gentle walk in the park!!
