Brankica Dungan's Cancer Fund

Brankica, my nephew Christopher’s wife, is a cheerful, giving, and hardworking mother of two precious little girls, now aged six and ten. Everyone who knows Brankica loves her. On April 7, 2016, doctors diagnosed Brankica with angiosarcoma of the breast. This rare and aggressive cancer develops in the cells lining the vascular channels. Now, doctors are testing her and determining treatment – most likely surgery and radiation or chemotherapy.

In the weeks before the cancer diagnosis, Brankica was in severe pain and unable to work. She endured a biopsy and an 11 day hospital stay, feeling worse and worse. As her pain progressed, she was unable to work and used up her sick leave and vacation time.
Brankica’s husband misses work, with further loss of income, as he accompanies Brankica to medical procedures. Their family has minimal insurance to pay the high medical costs. They must also pay travel expenses, as the oncologist is 90 miles away. The household bills continue, even as their income is reduced.
