Edit: April 15- Mary has now had 7 weeks of straight chemo. Her hair has fallen out and she barely has any energy. She went to the hospital yesterday due to nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. She’s home now resting but it’s been a rough week for our girl.
March 7-Mary had her first round of chemo last week. Her nausea was so bad she ended up going to the ER. After 5 horrific days of nausea/vomiting she was finally able to walk her dogs. She’s been very weak and fatigued and it’s been difficult for her to do her normal daily routines. She misses working out very much but hopes to get out and go to a yoga class this week.

Hi everyone, I’m Amanda and one of my best friends, Mary Blank, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Mary and I have been friends since we were in middle school and have maintained a beautiful friendship after all these years. We built memories I couldn’t ever forget, as they built me into who I am today. I am beyond saddened and in disbelief that my sweet childhood best friend, at 34 years old, is beginning her fight with breast cancer.
Mary is originally from Jacksonville and an alumni from the University of North Florida. She has always been very outgoing and athletic and could light up any room with her bright smile and cheerful personality. She currently lives in Las Vegas with her three dogs, an avid golfer, which is also part of her job for social media, who loves the outdoors and anything athletic. She was a gymnast since the age of two and has always lived life to the fullest.
At 21 years old, Mary was told she BRCA1+ ( an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer.) Because of this, she’s had yearly MRIs, mammograms and ultrasounds to make sure they catch it early. Her last mammogram was in Dec of 22’ which stated she had “dense breast” but all else seemed fine. October 23’ came and she started to feel a lump on her right breast. Concerned over the lump, her OBGYN confirmed she needed to have an ultrasound and mammogram. It’s now Dec. and her results confirm there is a 3cm nodule, and they immediately biopsy the mass. She waited 1-2 weeks, which felt like an eternity for her and all of us that love our sweet girl.
It’s now the new year and as we prayed Mary would never have to fight cancer, but on Jan. 3 the pathology report came back positive for breast cancer. Her doctor stated she’s at stage 2 and she will go ahead with chemo for 6 months, followed by a double mastectomy for being BRCA+.
Mary lives alone and doesn’t have very much help and support from her family, which is where her friends step in. Her dad passed when she was 27 of a brain tumor, and since that day, she’s lost the only unconditional love she ever felt.
Your support will help Mary tremendously. Let’s keep her spirits up so she doesn’t have to worry about the financial burden as well as her health. We all know and love that bright smile she brings so let’s keep that same light glowing while she undergoes her breast cancer treatments.
While undergoing chemo for 6 months, expect she won’t be able to do much of anything. She’s very anxious because she’s unsure of her future and will no longer be able to do simple tasks, such as work, workout, walk her dogs, or any basic daily function, which will majorly affect her life. As a model, she will be out of work for sometime and she will have to hire someone to feed and walk her dogs.
