Sri Lanka Psychology Placement
Donation protected
After successfully applying with SL Volunteers I have been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity, to go to Sri Lanka for five weeks on a psychology placement. The aim of the project is to help those suffering the effects of the Tsunami specifically in the area of Mental Health. From an economic perspective the country has progressed significantly in rebuilding its homes etc. However, many of the people are still considerably damaged by the disaster. The placement involved helping people in a Mental Health Unit who are sufferers of Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder which generally relates to anxiety caused by a distressing event, in this case the Tsunami. Other experiences will include working with Children who were left orphaned as a result of the Tsunami within care homes, a lot of whom now are considered to have behavioural issues and other children with special needs.
To be fortunate to have this opportunity to help people who have gone through such a horrific time is incredibly heart warming and I hope that through this experience I can make a difference. In order to go to Sri Lanka I must raise £1500 to cover the expenses of Accommodation, flights, training etc. Anything you could spare I would be so very grateful. I am also hoping to organise a few charity events over the next 6-9 months. I will keep you all informed and thank you in advance. Please share.
