Raven's Nest Yoga Business Permit

Raven's Nest Yoga in Palmetto, Florida was founded by Renee Bierbaum following the death of her husband, almost three years ago, Renee became a certified RYT-500 yoga instructor and had a yoga pavilion constructed in her backyard with the approval of her neighbors and home owners association. Renee has been conducting yoga classes in her pavilion to support her and her son.
In November of 2015, Renee began to plan for a day long relax, release and renew women's yoga retreat to be culminated in a sweat lodge as a way to welcome in the New Year (2016) and offer women a way to heal, rejuvenate and start the year anew. Renee created an event and shared the event on Facebook. A Native American man in Sarasota, Florida saw the event and contacted Renee. He had an issue with Renee holding her event as he feels only Native Americans can hold such events as sweat lodge. There is much more to this situation but this is a summary. This man advised Renee that he would cause problems for her if she did not cancel the event. Well, he did. He contacted Manatee County Code Enforcement who arrived at Renee's property and effectively shut her down until Renee has the correct permits to run a business from her home, which she wasn't even aware that she needed to teach private yoga classes.
Being a widower and a single mother, Renee's only means of making a living was taken away from her in the blink of an eye. Many of us support Renee on her quest as a yoga instructor, we thoroughly enjoy and benefit from attending her classes. We want nothing more than to see her succeed!
This Go Fund Me account was started to help Renee raise the money she needs to get the correct permits from the county so she can hold her yoga classes in her pavilion and support herself and her child. Any money received through this fund will be used for the permits, to cover any loss of income until she can open again and any remaining funds will be used to enhance the property for future yoga classes and for scholarships for those who can not afford yoga instruction.
We are grateful, humbled and honored by any support received.
This page was set-up and will be monitored by both Renee Bierbaum and myself, Christen Gause, one of her yoga students and staunch supporters.
