MAUI Victim : Theresa Cook

I am helping my dear friend (Melissa, her brother Adam, and their immediate families) in saying goodbye to their beloved mother, Theresa Cook.

Theresa, 72, was one of the many victims in the devastating Maui fire. Very outgoing and carefree, she was visiting Lahaina for some solitude and rest by herself when the fires broke out.

She was evacuated from her hotel and went missing for 9 days.

During that time Melissa and Adam sought answers from Red Cross, Coast Guard, and numerous Facebook groups. They received little guidance as to where their mother had gone but they remained hopeful.

On Sunday, August 20th, Melissa received the devastating news that her mother had been found and identified as a victim of this horrible disaster. She would not be returning home as planned.

With this news comes loss, heartache, and responsibilities. Theresa didn't hold life-insurance and leaves behind medical bills, home expenses, additional debts, and her beloved pit bull.

Her children have been left with all of these expenses in addition to the upcoming costs of her funeral, financial loss from time off work to grieve, as well as having to go to Maui to recover what they are able to.

She was an amazing mother (and grandmother to her four grandchildren) who loved her so very much. She was someone who would put others’ needs ahead of her own; even a complete stranger's. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by many.
