Behrens Kids Fund
Donation protected
I have only known Amy (the mom) for about a year but she is a friend who has been through a lot in her young life. When friends go through hard times, we always ask what we can do to help but much of the time, all we can do for them is pray. And that is perfect! However, this time, I asked specifically to do this for Amy and her children, and she agreed.
The Behrens children were saved from God knows what when they texted 9-1-1 that their dad (Amy's ex) was driving drunk with them in the car. The plan was to go to an aunt's home in Colorado. The children endured a frightening ride from Ravenna Road to the south Burger King where law enforcement ultimately arrested their dad. The children were texting 9-1-1 along the way describing businesses they saw so the police could find them. Their dad was booked for driving under the influence (his second offense) and two counts of driving drunk with minors in the vehicle. He was taken to jail. Burger King was so kind to get the kids food while they waited for their mom to come pick them up.
This was not the first time the children were riding in the car while their dad was driving drunk. After many incidents, mom called into 9-1-1 last year, as she knew their dad was drunk when he picked them up from their grandma's house. The dispatch could not locate the vehicle but she did tell their mom about the 9-1-1 system. The dispatch officer told her to tell her kids about it so the police could find them then next time this happened. Thank God for keeping them safe until the police found them!
The Department of Health and Human Services has allowed temporary full custody to Amy until their dad can prove he is fit. HHS wants her to hire an attorney to get permanent full custody of her children. Legalaid does not have funds for this case. The family is limited in funds right now as they had just purchased a larger home to move the whole family into before all of this happened. They are really struggling to keep the children from returning to their dad's home and possibly further endangering them.
We are asking for your help so they can hire an attorney to permanently bring the kids home and keep them safe.
We are shooting for $2000, unsure of what this could cost, but every bit will help and is very appreciated by the family. They have a great deal of support from friends and family and everyone wants to see them all together in their new home. Any money received will go to attorney fees, court costs, and anything else required to win this case. Any funds over that amount will go into a fund for the children for their education and/or donated to the local S.A.F.E. Center.
Blessings to all of you in advance for your donations and please keep them in your prayers.
God watched over these kids and we know he will continue to, no matter what happens.
