On Saturday, July 16th our brother Freddy Perez was making a left turn into the Chevron down the street from his home when he was struck and killed by a driver in a black GMC pickup truck. The driver did not stop to render aid and fled onto the 405 south. Some witnesses who saw the accident called 911 and stopped to help bring our brother back to us. To them, we are eternally grateful.
My dearest baby brother was born on October 10th, 1991 I remember it like it was just yesterday because it is the first memory I have of my own life. It's as if my life began the moment his did too. I don't remember a time when it wasn't titi y lloron. As kids, my baby brother was sweet and kind. Too kind sometimes that I made it my job to speak up for him. No one could yell at my baby brother except me. As my brother grew up he fell in love with sports. He was never any good playing them but he loved watching them. His first “love” was the Tampa Buccaneers and then he quickly hopped over to the Raiders. En fútbol el era Mexico a todo dar a las Chivas y la selección de Mexico. Often taking our dad to games. He loved the Dodgers so much that would often go to games alone. It was his me time he said. He was the biggest Laker fan I've ever known. He took us all to watch games with him. He grew up watching the Lakers during the Kobe and Shaq era. Kobe was his hero. When Kobe died my brother was the first person I called, he was the first person many people called because we all knew what Kobe meant to my brother. My baby brother became an amazing and selfless man. If you needed help with anything he would drop what he was doing and come help. He loved everyone and everyone loved Freddy. He was everyone's little brother and best friend. He loved his family and his culture. He loved going to Mexico and visiting our parent's hometown. My brother was a funny guy. He made silly jokes, he was goofy, he was a weirdo, and he made me smile and laugh. His laugh and his gapped tooth smile lit up every single room he was in. I love you and miss you more than my heart can take lloron. I hope Kobe is teaching you some moves up there. -Lizzette
For anyone that had the honor to know Freddy, you know how big of a heart he had. He was so selfless, funny, and goofy. His family meant everything to him. Freddy was so full of life and to know Freddy, was truly a gift. He had the most infectious smile and he touched so many with that smile of his. Not only was he a son, but he was a brother and an uncle. He was the second oldest of a large blended family. There are no words to describe the huge loss that we are all feeling after losing him. We are all so heartbroken. The short 30 years we had with Freddy on Earth will never ever be enough and he will be missed by many forever. I love you so much big brother. Until we meet again. -Aylin
