Hi, my name is Matthew McKinney. I am a Boy Scout from Troop 94 working on my Eagle Scout project.
The project will take place at the Codorus Furnace in Hellam Township, PA. I am working with the York Conservation Society. They will be restoring the furnace because it’s falling apart. The furnace is famous because they made cannon balls for George Washington’s army.
I am going to make it more accessible to anyone who visits by adding stairs made of railroad ties which will be used to turn a steep slope into an easy to climb staircase which will take you to see the remains of an old coal house. I am also adding a railing to help assist people on their way up and to prevent people from falling. Finally I will be clearing and to create a camping and picnic area.
To accomplish this project I will need not only people to help do the work but I will also need to raise funds for the materials needed for the project. Thank you for helping me reach my goal.
