Sedibeng College Student Projects
Donation protected
We are a group of four Americans (Kelly, Cory, Esther, and Amanda) who work as Fulbright English Teaching Assistants at Sedibeng College for Further Education and Training in the Vaal area of South Africa. We are looking to raise money to grow the college's library infrastructure, as well as supporting multiple student projects that seek to enrich campus and community cultures.
Sedibeng College consists of four campuses located throughout the Vaal region. The college serves just under 10,000 students, most of whom are between the ages of 17-25 years old. Sedibeng strives to provide its students with real world skills and a rigorous learning environment that will ultimately lead to long-term career opportunities. Study focuses include Engineering, Marketing, Business Administration, and Hair and Beauty. Each campus has its own specific needs, but exists as one faction of the larger college entity.
All four campuses have areas that function as libraries, but thousands more books are needed to feed students' growing interest in literature as well as increasing research capabilities.
As ETAs, our primary role is to promote literacy awareness throughout the college community. In addition, we assist with the development and administration of lesson plans, hold job readiness and leadership workshops (CV reviews, mock interviews, public speaking sessions), plan job fairs and community service projects, and build literacy skills.
Your donation will assist in with the planning and implementation of one of the following projects:
- Publishing a book of student work (written and visual): printing/layout costs, the developing of film, and entry in a local literary festival.
- College-wide newspublication: printing/layout costs
- Leadership Academy: materials and certificates
Please help our students with realizing their dreams of creating a more literate and creative South Africa!
