Tony's story:
As many of our friends know, I have a bad heart. Hereditary high blood pressure, two previous heart attacks, triple bypass, pacemaker/defibrillator and coronary artery disease have now made it so I will soon have to have a heart transplant to survive. My cardiologist has finally found us a team willing to take on my case. The challenge, they are in KC, some 4.5 hours away. Thanks to insurance requirements, there are many hoops I have to jump through to qualify to even get on the list. One of those requirements is that I meet with the team for all kinds of testing and med checks every 4-6 weeks. It's a 4.5-hour drive each way. We TRY to stay the night when we can because the testing can last 4-5 hours and is exhausting. Somedays, too much for me to even make the trip home afterward. Chris has to go with me as I am not allowed to make the trips alone.
In addition, med changes are frequent. Some of these meds are partially covered by insurance, some are not. I am on 15 different meds daily. And thanks to them changing constantly, and the high cost of co-pays, it's taken a toll on us financially.
Due to my declining heart health, Chris has had to find a job working from home, so I can have someone here with me, just in case something were to happen. She has found one, but it won't start til 8/15 and 2-3 weeks after that her first check will arrive.
Unfortunately, due to all of the above, we have tapped out our savings and sold as much as we can just to make it this far into the process and still take care of our basic needs. We should be ok by September once her checks start coming in. I'm not asking for a handout, just a hand to help us weather this monsoon of a storm. I would greatly appreciate an amount and thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration. We will pay it forward as soon as we can do so. We appreciate every single one of you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you so much and may God bless you,
Tony and Chris Thoms
