Kaci Kicks Cancer

Kaci was diagnosed with breast cancer in early April 2020, at the age of 31. She will be undergoing lots of different medical procedures to help battle her cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Fortunately many of these procedures are covered by insurance, less deductibles and copays. But the effects of her treatment will have lasting impacts on her overall health. She still has her whole life ahead of her with marriage, a family and her career... things we don’t think about are having to make the decision to freeze eggs to preserve your future hopes for a family, get long term boarding for her horse and not being able to work because of the intensity and frequency of treatment. The process of preserving eggs costs upwards of $20,000 alone—and none of these secondary expenses have insurance coverage. So now, after all of the times Kaci has made space for our struggles, it's our time to be able to return the favor.

When I think of Kaci, I think of light: when she walks into a room, everything just brightens. She is a giver of herself to others, whether it is to make room for someone else's cause to celebrate, to grieve, to vent or to make them laugh until their sides hurt. When you talk to Kaci you feel listened to, beloved and appreciated. Never in my life have I met someone who is so gifted at uplifting others, finding happiness in difficult times, and creatively inspired in her work, her relationships and her art.

These are challenging and uncertain times for all of us, in the middle of a pandemic. Kaci's treatments are costly, and not all are covered by insurance. We hope to be able to off-set the costs of the medical bills, lost wages, and sick time by coming together as a community and uplifting Kaci, just as she has done for us so many times.
