My name is Robin Wilson , I am a friend of Maddie's and of the family.
Maddie holds a special place in my heart, as well as anyone else's heart who has the pleasure of knowing her. She is the most genuine and kind-hearted person I have ever known. Her spark for life and smile is absolutely contagious! Maddie has had to endure so much and from such a young age. We are asking for your help,Every Dollar Counts. This will help Maddie and her Parents with options for treatment and needed medical equipment.
Below is a copy from her sister, Samantha Cansler of the information regarding Maddie's situation:
9 Years ago, at the age of 10, Maddie Cansler was diagnosed with a very rare and merciless glioma type tumor, Oligodendroglioma. With a primary location in the spinal cord, Maddie has had to endure several surgeries, proton radiation and countless treatments to save her life. She has had to, on multiple occasions, re-learn the tasks we all may take for granted, such as walking or holding a loved one's hand. But after being told she was destined for death with a week to live, to the miraculous and grateful shock of all, Maddie survived and thrived for almost a decade. The only thing more unrelenting than her tumor, is her faith in Christ. Maddie’s journey has become her testimony; a tool and voice to help others via inspiration and prayer. She became active in music and church. She made friends and graduated high school, all while giving Jesus the glory. Her family pulled together to support her in every which way possible. Maddie’s parents have put their pain aside, remained long suffering and fought to give her opportunity for a life untethered to defeat.
Unfortunately, after some recent physical struggles, weakness and falls, MRI results have revealed to Maddie and her family that the once controlled tumor has now grown. These days are difficult for many, however health seems to be a luxury that not everyone has privileges to. Maddie is on the track to second opinions at USC, and potentially to out-of-state evaluations. Her treatment plan moving forward is unknown at this time. But what is known, is Maddie’s story is not over yet and she needs help. Her family is now at capacity and financial assistance would be a blessing beyond belief. In addition to all of the impeding medical expenses, Maddie is in need of new equipment and home modifications to assist her mobility in order to preserve her life at home.
Despite her physical and emotional pain, Maddie chooses to sit up at her computer and write about her experiences on her newly created blog. Still in the face of her agonizing enemy, she uses her time and precious energy to attempt to reach others. Helping Maddie is helping many, as she sees her life as a story to share, to inspire and most importantly to spread the news of God's love for us all.
