Facing Eviction

Hi, my name is Kathy and I have/had breast cancer. Because of the surgery from the cancer, I couldn’t work for several months and had very little income and fell behind on many debts, especially my rent! Now they are taking me to court to collect the $2000+ back rent or evict me. The problem is my income has been cut almost in half. I worked for VB public school system and retired at the end of this past school year after 20 years because I couldn’t take the bad behaviors and disrespect that went unchecked. I decided to retire because the behavior was affecting my health. My retirement is about 1/4 what my salary was when I worked. I was collecting almost $1000 a month alimony, but my ex quit paying because we both retired (long story on why I didn’t go to court to fight it). Luckily, I do receive Social Security and now have a part time job that I love, but even that isn’t enough to catch up. I’ve been trying to get another part time job in the hours I’m not at my private preschool, but have have yet to find one.

I also have quite a bit of financial medical debt as can be expected from staying in a hospital and from all the various doctors and procedures. Also, several of the medications I take are expensive, so buying the ones that are not totally too high has been causing me to not be able to pay all my debts. One med costs $500 and that’s with insurance and savings cards! I can’t pay that!

Another problem I am facing is my car did not pass inspection because of one tire not having enough tread. I have been driving around with a rejected inspection sticker for well over two months now. (I just pray I don’t get pulled over for it!). The inspection station I took it to told me I needed 1 tire in order to pass inspection but he recommended me to replace all 4 tires. He said they could do it for about $1000 (I think he said).I have a friend that can get my 4 tires for about $500 for all 4 if I pay cash, which I do not have. And because I am having a struggle with all my other bills, I can’t afford another one from financing tires, which the friend said he can do, but it will cost me more to finance. I am desperate for financial help if I can get it, please! I would like to at least replace the tire that kept my car from passing inspection and replace another used one I got with a deal from a friend about a year or so ago that keeps needing more air in it- about every other week!
