Eastside HS Percussion
Donation protected
The Eastside High School Ram Band in Gainesville, Florida is seeking funds for supplying new equipment to contribute to our percussion section.
Our band has grown rapidly in the past couple years, escalating our band program from Eastside not even having a band program at all, to having over one hundred dedicated members in our 2013-14 season, and continuously growing. With new members and a quickly expanding band, the need for equipment also emerges.
Currently, our percussion section is in need of new instruments and various accessories to improve our performance for the incoming 2014 marching season, and for all future years. The front ensemble (pit) and battery (drumline) have a large amount of instruments that need to be repaired and improved. There is a huge array of expensive items that we need that your helpful donation would go to:
In our front ensemble, we have one marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone. Our pit is essentially limited to having a maximum of six members, but it could be much larger. Some instruments, such as the timpani, require field frames to transport to and from performances and our outdoor rehearsals. Mallets and sticks cost upwards of $30 per pair, and when you need nearly eight pairs for every instrument, the cost adds up tremendously. Typically, the front ensemble contains the most expensive instruments, and we're currently unable to fulfill our full potential with five members against a 100 member band.
The battery, or drumline, is one of the most costly sections for repairs and has to have close attention paid to in order to sound exceptional on the field, in unison with each other and the band. A vital aspect of the band in keeping tempo and unifying the band's sonority, the drumline has to put in a huge amount of work with the band and on their own as a section. Many of our instruments are falling apart. We need new racks to hold sticks, keys to tune the drums, and drum heads that aren't broken. This is very costly as well, and any donation will help.
We thank you for any amount of donation that truly helps in creating a spectacular season for our percussionists next year, who are already eager to begin performing an exciting show.
