24 Miles in 24 Hours: Food Insecurity Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello Friends, Family, and community members of Lake Oswego!
For the third year of my 24 Miles in 24 Hours Fundraiser, I’m excited to announce that I’ve chosen Hunger Fighters Oregon to be the recipient of this year’s funding. Since I am partnering with Hunger Fighters for the second year, some may wonder why I’ve decided to fundraise for them again.
Recent inflation and rising living costs have contributed to a situation in which food insecurity has worsened. “The national food hardship rate for families with children, which dipped in 2021, has rebounded to its highest level since December 2020, according to researchers at Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy.” per The New York Times. Also contributing, the Fed’s economic aid has dried up, forcing Americans to depend on their own savings to pay for abnormally expensive food. On top of this, salaries are not keeping up with the increased living costs, so many are losing money faster than they can earn it back.
With the possibility of a recession on the horizon, many are struggling to meet their basic needs at a time when economic instability threatens millions of Americans’ jobs and housing situations. Food insecurity is everywhere, and although it may be hard to see if you aren’t being directly affected by it, food insecurity is a looming threat that affects many of our neighbors. Hunger Fighters Oregon works to ease the sting of food insecurity by providing an array of foods and household/hygiene items for anyone who needs them.
These fundraisers have shown me that this community is always stronger when it works together and we can actually make a difference if we’re aware of the issues and try to do something to help solve them. I want to thank all of my donors in advance for their contribution and support as I push myself through fatigue, soreness, injury, and sleep deprivation to run all twenty-four miles.
I will be running from August 28th at 10 am to August 29th at 10 am. Join me on my last mile at the Lake Oswego High School Track
