Help Chang Family Fight Cancer

Hi everyone, my name is Rose.

I am writing this because my father was recently diagnosed with Advanced Stage 4 liver cancer. My parents and brother are currently in Washington, and it has almost been two weeks since he was rushed to the ER with intense abdominal pain. In that time, his condition has worsened, and he has been in extreme pain — his liver is failing so he has become extremely weak, thin, fatigued, and jaundiced. Due to his liver cancer, he has lost his appetite and is unable to eat much. He is currently hospitalized at Tacoma General Hospital due to further complications caused by his liver failure. He is being treated for possible infections due to fluid build up in his abdomen and multiple blood clots. I’ve left California to be with my mom and brother, and we have been at the hospital all day everyday since my dad’s been admitted. Our family is devastated by the news — my mom has been doing everything she can to help and stay by my dad's side since both of his parents and all of our relatives are in Taiwan.

Without access to healthcare and a primary care physician, his condition and pain have been difficult to manage and treat. An oncologist has informed us that he has about 3-6 months left. I am completely devastated to see my dad in this state and hopelessly heartbroken I am unable to save him and that my time with him is nearing an end. I am in shock and disbelief that I’m losing my dad at such a young age and only wish I could have more time with him. My dad’s dying wish is to return home to Taiwan to see his mother.

The medical costs have already been accumulating drastically and my brother and I have taken leave from both of our jobs/work to help my mom and to be with my dad. Any funds donated will be used to pay for treatment and palliative care for my father to manage his pain and to help him feel as comfortable as he can. We would really appreciate any support or help in this difficult time.
