My name is Bethany and I’m the daughter of Tom Sand. For my Dad’s 59th birthday this year he was given the gift of cancer. After being blessed with being able to go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester this week he was given the diagnosis of pseudomyxoma peritinea along with peritoneal carcinomatosis. Due to this, his belly continues to grow at a fair pace as the cancer spreads mucin in his abdomen. He really is in the absolute best hands possible, and will be having a day long surgery to try to clean out as much of his abdomen as possible. With that being said, he will be at the Mayo hospital for at least a week, along with the love of his life, my mother, staying in Rochester for the duration of his stay. My dad is then looking at a minimum of 6-8 weeks of a recovery at home after his surgery and extended hospitalization. My Dad has an amazing support system, but I don’t think anyone is prepared for such a financial burden. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and if you are able to help offset the upcoming costs we would be forever grateful. I am sure he would also be willing to provide hugs after his soon to be smaller belly is healed!
