Care For Joan and Carter

I wanted to update Joan and Carter's story because as we know life can definitely take some wild turns. Carter has rapidly declined in his memory and his ability to function over the last years and unfortunately during this past weeks snow and ice storm (1/15/24-1/21/24) we spent the week in the hospital with Carter after he fell twice. Thankfully this time his injuries were minor, but Joan was not able to help Carter when the incidences occured and it is now time for her to find a memory care home for him. If you have journeyed through this process you may know how stressful and expensive it can be and due to their disabilities their income is very limited so we wanted to utilize this amazing platform once again to help them as best we can. I know that any help anyone can provide would take a tiny bit of stress off of Joan as she navigates the process of selecting a facility for Carter. Please know how grateful we are to all of the help everyone has provided through the years as y'all have literally been lifesavers. One more thing I know Joan needs more than ever is everyones prayers as she navigates the stress that this all brings. We will never ever be able to thank everyone for helping us during these trying times and I hope someday we can help each and every one of you when you need us.
Hi everyone my name is Roxanne and I am here to help two of the most wonderful people I have ever met: my mother and father in law. Have you ever met wonderful people who would give you their last cent and drop everything if you needed them? I knew when I met my husband and he took me to meet my future in-laws that I was marrying into a special family and they have loved me like their own ever since. These people have now been in my life for over a decade and I would do anything to help them no matter what. They have done so much for my husband, girls, and me that I would give anything to be able to repay them. They helped us buy our first house and they have been there for us through every up and down.
My mother and father in law (Joan and Carter) haven't had what you would call an easy road. Life has thrown them many curveballs but throughout their winding road of a journey they have still kept their Faith no matter the trial or tribulation. I just want to share a little of their journey so you can understand why I would do anything for them. They have been through more than one family should ever have to go through.
Their marriage started off like any other and one day they decided to start their family. During the process of giving birth my mother in law was paralyzed, but this life changing event didn't stop her for one second. This might have knocked down another person but my mother in law isn't your everyday average person. While her newborn baby was being cared for by her mother and husband at home she was in another state completing rehabilitation to get back home. She never let anything stop her and she came home and had a full time career as a preschool teacher and preschool director all while raising a family. After retiring she now works developing lessons for other teachers. Nonni as we call her has not had it easy due to health complications from her paralysis. She has spent so much time in and out of the dr. and hospitals and relies on (very expensive) medicines and antibiotics to keep her healthy. Most recently we almost lost her due to heart complications and hospital negligence. I know the reason she keeps going each and everyday is because she lives for my girls Mckinley and Palmer.

My father in law is one of the hardest working men I have ever met. No matter what life has thrown his way he has gotten back up over and over again. My girls ask everyday if we can go see Car Car because they love him so much and my youngest cries when she can't go see him. Carter has been in sales most of his career and if you know anything about sales you know there are many ups and downs. One company buys out another and the low many on the totem pole is always the first one to go no matter how hard of a worker they are. Each time this happened my father in law busted his butt and started over each time. Sadly this hard working man had to go through this cycle several times and in between he did what he needed to do to keep his family going. It's so hard to watch someone you love work their hardest just to be knocked down and get back up over and over again.
Sadly after receiving the news that he had lost his most recent job my father and mother in law received some devastating news that made things even more difficult. My mother in law started to notice that Carter was having a difficult time remembering things and finally talked him into seeing a neurologist. We were hoping for better news that the stress of losing his job was what was affecting his memory but we received the news no-one wants to hear that Carter had early onset dementia. This news was absolutely devastating for all of us. This news also made life for them even more difficult. This now meant that neither of them could work and both of them would be on disability and if you know anything about disability and insurance you know that it doesn't pay much and it's not easy to get. We have a long road ahead of us and we all know things are only going to get more difficult and we are going to need as much help as we can get. We pray through this sight that we can take as much burden off of Joan and Carter right now.

I can not adequately describe to you what my family has been through and how wonderful they are within this text box, but I am going to do whatever I can to help them.
Family takes care of family and that's what we are going to do! I will never be able to thank everyone who helps us, but I will try my best each and everyday to pay forward what has been given.
