Fundraiser for Jojo Darlin
Donation protected
I am starting this fundraiser in hopes to raise at least $50,000 for Jojo and our family.
Jojo was on his way home from University of Houston on September 10, 2015 when he was struck by a Toyota Tundra on US 90 @ Harlem. He was only 2 miles from his home (Rivers Edge).
A driver on US 90 north bound was impatient when he went on the shoulder and clipped the Toyota Tundra, the driver of the Toyota Tundra then lost control of his truck and crossed over the grassy median strip onto US 90 south bound and struck Jojo's single cab Dodge Ram truck on the front left panel.
Bystanders say they thought Jojo didn't make it because he wasn't conscious or moving. But a single wave of Jojo's arm and a cry for help, they knew Jojo was alive. Bystanders immediately put the fire out and ran to Jojo's aid. A woman who was at the scene recalls him asking her if he could hold her hand. She never left Jojo's side. On one of the pictures below, you can see Jojo's left arm hanging out of the window.
He was removed from the truck with the jaws of life. Fort Bend County Sheriffs Office, Richmond Police Department, Texas State Troopers, and the Richmond Fire Department all responded to the accident. The paramedics took great care of Jojo and did everything to save his life. We cannot thank them enough for keeping him alive. We also thank the life-flight team at Oakbend Medical Hospital for flying him to Memorial Hermann Downtown. Without everybodys help and compassion, Jojo would not be with us today.
Jojo was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Downtown where the surgeons quickly removed his spleen to stop the internal bleeding. He also suffered a broken left femur, broken left forearm, broken left shoulder with displacement, a broken left eye socket, cheek bone and jaw, 2 broken bones on his right lower leg that protruded through his skin, a broken right heel, and a collasped lung. As well as broken rib bones, and broken bones in his left foot. He suffered kidney and liver damage.
Jojo is currently on a ventilator to control his breathing. He is on heavy pain medications to control his pain and even then he can still feel a lot of pain. He opens his eyes and responds to us (his family members).
Jojo will be at Memorial Hermann Downtown in the Medical Center for 2-3 weeks, maybe even longer.
Update: September 16, 2015
Jojo had his spleen removed as soon as he made it to Memorial Hermann Downtown.
He had surgery on his broken femur (a titanium rod and nail was placed inside the femur)
He had surgery on the broken tibia and fibula that protruded through the skin (the tibia has a titanium rod and 2 pins) the fibia also had a break but will heal on its own. He will need skin grafts on his shin to repair the skin that was destroyed by the protruding bones
He had surgery on his face
The breathing tube was removed and he is breathing on his own and is improving slowly
Jojo still needs surgery on his left arm, skin grafts for his right shin, surgery on the broken bones in his left foot and his right heel.
Anything will help us.
