The night before Christmas Eve, my back started to hurt really bad and my legs wouldn’t work quite right. My dad took me to the doctor on Christmas Eve, and he has been giving me pain meds to make me more comfortable, but I just keep getting worse. By Christmas night my back legs wouldn’t work at all, and I lost control of my bladder. I’m afraid I may never get to play with my little sister now.
I went to see a Veterinary Neurologist the day after Christmas, and they said if I can have hemilaminectomy surgery soon, there is a better than 90% chance I will have a complete recovery and go on to live a long happy life (full of lots of playtime with my little sister!). If I don’t get surgery, or if we wait too long, the best I could hope for is to end up paralyzed for life; but the doctor said since I've lost control of my bladder and bowels, I may not survive without surgery.
My parents are distraught. I am their baby, and they want so badly to help me. They just don’t know where the money will come from though. The MRI, anesthesia, surgery, and other hospital expenses add up to almost $7,600, and they just don’t have that much money right now. If anyone can help us, we would be so grateful. I’m such a young dog, and I have so much life left in me.
