Medical Bills and Taking Care of Aiden
From Kyle & Kelsi Peacock:
I want to update our patients, family, and friends with our birth story. Kelsi entered into labor on Sunday afternoon, and we gave birth to Aiden Douglas on Monday morning! Unfortunately, Aiden has a congenital malformation in his diaphragm that allowed much of his intestines to relocate to where his heart and left lung were supposed to be. Once he was born, Aiden could no longer get oxygen or beat his heart effectively, and the situation became one of crisis. If it wasn’t for the wisdom and skill of our birth team, our son would not have survived. After the cause was determined, he was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital who specialize in treating the most critical children scenarios. We will be here for weeks, and we are praying for Transcendent Healing, Certainty in the Unknown, and Guarding our Thoughts from wandering into the “maybes”.
The condition is called a diaphragmatic hernia, and according to one of the neonatal physicians, Riley sees 15-20 of these each year. We happened to be one of those cases out of tens of thousands, and the condition was not evident in any of our tests. Despite the obvious unfortunate event, we are blessed and lucky to be in the position we are in. Aiden has made remarkable progress, and he continues to fight and make improvement. He will need to continue to heal from the hypoxia that his condition created, and he will need to have surgery to repair the gap in the diaphragm. Prayers are welcome, and he can use every one of them!
This has certainly not been easy, but God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called! We are praying the risky prayer “God: you are in control and we are following.”
It has been hard to share updates immediately with everyone, but I do want to share them and continually ask for prayer.
