Meghan has decided to undergo spinal fusion surgery to help strengthen and correct spinal fractures that have occured due to bone degeneration from the cancer attacking her spine. for the last 6 or more months she has been in varrying degrees of pain due to continued fractures which resulted in lack of abilitiy to keep her neck and head in a proper comfortable position. The surgery is tomorrow September 5th 2023 and is to take 7 hours to complete along with a 1-2 week stay at the hospital, minimum 6 week recovery before a long road full of physiotherapy; all of which she is willing to do to ensure a better quality of life. Once home, she will need different degrees of care as recovery continues, some of which will not be covered through OHIP or benefits, and therefore will be coming out of pocket. Hi everyone. My name is Mr. Duca and I am the father of Meghan, one of the most dedicated Paramedics in her field. For the last two years, she was on the road working full-time hours with the addition of overtime during the Covid-19 pandemic helping patients all around the region and being very cautious about not getting the virus. But this past June, she had an accident while trying to extricate a patient out of a residence, injuring her back. The injury was severe and the pain was excruciating to the point another ambulance was required as she was unable to complete the call. For 5 months my daughter was on modified duties at work due to the injury and thought her back pain was related to her injury.

After several CT scans, MRIs, and a Biopsy, the worst nightmare of a parent was confirmed. My 28 yrs daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 4 that spread to her spine. The day before I took her to the hospital she received the best news ever that she finally got her full-time position as a paramedic. However, due to an HR clause in the full-time contract, she is ineligible to use her STD and LTD benefits. But now everything is on standby. She worked so hard to get where she is right now. She was willing to work anywhere to get experience in EMS. She moved from London, Ont. to Clarenville NFLD to work as a paramedic in 2016-2019. In 2020 she got her dream job working as a paramedic in Kitchener/Waterloo/ Cambridge Ont. Her co-workers like her kindness and compassion, easygoing nature always there to support anyone, and never making any judgments about anyone. She is there for all the covid patients, emergency calls, and overtime. It is time to help her now.

The funds will be used to buy an orthopedic bed for her back, medicine that is not covered by OHIP, and her daily expenses during her recovery. We do not want her to stress about money. We want her to focus on beating cancer and to be back on her feet to continue her dream job as a paramedic and help people in distress.

Salut tout le monde. Je m'appelle Mr. Duca et je suis le père de Meghan, l'une des ambulancières paramédicales les plus dévouées dans son domaine. Au cours des deux dernières années, elle était sur la route à travailler à temps plein avec l'ajout d'heures supplémentaires pendant la pandémie de Covid-19 pour aider les patients de toute la région. Très prudent pour ne pas attraper le virus. Mais en juin dernier, elle a eu un accident alors qu'elle tentait d'extirper une patiente d'une résidence, se blessant au dos. La blessure était grave et la douleur était atroce au point qu'une autre ambulance a été nécessaire car elle n'a pas pu répondre à l'appel. Pendant 5 mois, ma fille a eu des tâches modifiées au travail en raison de la blessure et pensait que ses maux de dos étaient liés à sa blessure.

Après plusieurs tomodensitogrammes, IRM et une biopsie, le pire cauchemar d'un parent a été confirmé. Ma fille de 28 ans a reçu un diagnostic de cancer du sein de stade 4 qui s'est propagé à sa colonne vertébrale. La veille de l'emmener à l'hôpital, elle a reçu la meilleure nouvelle qu'elle ait enfin obtenu son poste d'ambulancier à temps plein. Cependant, en raison d'une clause RH dans le contrat à temps plein, elle n'a pas le droit d'utiliser ses prestations d'ICD et d'ILD. Mais maintenant, tout est en veille. Elle a travaillé si dur pour arriver là où elle est en ce moment. Elle était prête à travailler n'importe où pour acquérir de l'expérience en EMS. Elle a déménagé de London, en Ontario. à Clarenville NFLD pour travailler comme paramédic en 2016-2019. En 2020, elle a obtenu son emploi de rêve en tant qu'ambulancière paramédicale à Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge Ont. Ses collègues apprécient sa gentillesse et sa compassion, sa nature facile à vivre, toujours là pour soutenir qui que ce soit et ne portant jamais de jugement sur qui que ce soit. Elle est là pour tous les patients covid, les appels d'urgence et les heures supplémentaires. Il est temps de l'aider maintenant.

Les fonds serviront à acheter un lit orthopédique pour son dos, des médicaments non couverts par l'OHIP et ses dépenses quotidiennes pendant sa convalescence. Nous ne voulons pas qu'elle s'inquiète pour l'argent. Nous voulons qu'elle se concentre sur la lutte contre le cancer et qu'elle se remette sur pied pour continuer son travail de rêve en tant qu'ambulancière et aider les personnes en détresse.
