Help Jake make his dreams reality

Donation protected
While rapidly ascending the ranks of pro surfing, there seemed no swell that could slow Jake Davis. The then 18-year old USA Jr. team captain had nothing but an ocean of ambition within him, and a vision broader than any horizon. A rising tide of excruciating back pain in 2016 resulted in Jake being rushed to the hospital for emergency spinal surgery. After months of pain, Dr. Bray discovered that Jake had Spinal Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM): a massive blood vessel that strangled his T1 through T4 vertebrae. After the surgery, no one thought Jake would ever surf be able to surf again. During the early days of his recovery, walking around the block was a huge victory.

Many assumed it to be the tragic end to a meteoric rise in the world of competitive surfing.
While not being able to surf for 5 years, Jake had his solace of the ocean taken away from him. He didn’t complain. He didn’t ask for anyone’s help. He worked. He trained his mind and body. Back then in 2017, he even said: “I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to surf the way I used to, but big picture, I don’t know how much that matters... Like I said, I could be dead. I’ve got to make the most of whatever time I have.”

Against all odds, Jake is not only back surfing, he’s performing at a higher level than ever before. Triumphantly returning to competitive surfing, Jake finished 3rd in the field of 96 at the SLO CAL Open a few weeks ago. He’s stoked, and we’re more than stoked for him. He’s ripping with his signature powerful style, a clear mind and a mature perspective. Now with a vision to reach heights he once thought would be unimaginable - he not only needs, but deserves some help. The problem is, after having to personally incur medical costs for surgery and years of rehabilitation, along with no assistance of sponsors, the cost of competing is steep. Never one to ask for anything, Jake’s career is at a turning point and any assistance would be huge. Donations would go towards the price of entering contests, travel and accommodation expenses, and the cost of doing what he was born to do.

In 2017, while not knowing if he’d ever surf again, Jake also said this: “That’s what this has taught me. Life’s not about material things. It’s not about contest results or sponsors. It’s about appreciating the time you have with the people around you. It’s about giving back and service. I could be dead right now. I’ve got a lot of work to do while I’m here.” A true story, a triumph of the human spirit. If you feel inclined to help Jake and his family in any way in the next chapter of his rising career, he and the people in his corner would be forever
grateful.
